Excited, but Let Down

Since I am a writer just entering the madness of publishing on Kindle and Amazon's print on demand (POD), I bought several books on the subject. This book started with a bang - gave me great ideas about getting my book in the hand of the reviewers and I thought "Wow, I'm getting in the heart of understanding the marketing of my book".

Then speeding through the book I noticed some anomalies. Although there is a lot of information about MySpace there was nothing about Facebook, which was developed later. So I looked in the front of the book and the copyright is from 2007 which means that for hi-tech, THIS BOOK IS VERY OLD and hence dated. Now I don't know if any of the information is valid.

Sigh, Back to the Writing Board.
Online Book Marketing Simplified!

Plug Your Book! is full of helpful online marketing tips for authors. It's a resource guide every new author should read. Developing a platform as an author (online) is important for the overall success of a book and Weber tells authors how to do that. From creating a website to blogging (step-by-step) to promoting the book on Amazon - Weber covers it all!
I would like to see a second edition of this book come out as technology changes so fast and new resources pop up all the time. For example, an entire chapter on Twitter could be added.

Thanks Steve Weber for all of these great ideas!!!

Reading this book will certainly open your eyes to a number of key areas to focus your efforts when promoting your book online. Based on the fact that the book was published in 2007, some areas of the internet have changed, and so, you will need to make those changes accordingly.

Overall, it is a tool you can use to get you started but know that there new sites that have taken over the internet in popularity, and you will need to incorporate them into your marketing model.

Great Resource for Current and Aspiring Authors

Review Date: June 24, 2010
Reviewer: Michael A. Saxton, USA
This book has been reviewed extensively so I will just give a quick response as to why I liked it. There are not only a lot of good suggestions and explained nuances of marketing your book, it's a really easy read. Mr. Weber doesn't bog you down with long terminology and fluffed out explanations. It is straight and to the point. Some of the subjects may be obvious to you or you may already be employing them, others will have you saying, "Wow, I would have never thought of that".

I would recommend going to the author's web site, which is mentioned in the book as there are some aspects that are now out dated, but updates are available online (not a surprise, with how fast things change in the online world). Two other books I would recommend for some companion information if you are a self publisher are 101 Reasons Why You Must Write A Book: How to Make A Six Figure Income by Writing and Publishing Your Own Book and The Well-Fed Self-Publisher: How to Turn One Book into a Full-Time Living.
